Hall or no hall, Sharpe a legend in hometown
GLENNVILLE - Osjha Anderson and Mary Durrence Moore will hold on to their places of honor for at least one more year.
This small hamlet proclaims itself the home of Anderson, Miss Georgia 1999, and Durrence Moore, Miss Georgia 1939, on road signs posted at the town limits.
Another more famous native seemed poised to join them Saturday.
The sign was to read: Home of Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe.
Sharpe fell shy of the 80-percent vote required for induction from the Hall's 44-member Board of Selectors.
Folks in Glennville feared he might not make it in this, his first year of eligibility. Hence the low-key build up to Saturday's announcement.
No "Good Luck Shannon" messages on business signs or in storefront windows.
No planned induction press conference watch parties.
No obvious public buzz at all.
